The City of Rustenburg
The City of Rustenburg wants all citizens and visitors – with and without disabilities – to have access to public spaces and transport systems and enjoy the City. For this reason, Rustenburg considers people with disabilities when planning new facilities such as buildings, transport infrastructure, signage, roads, and bridges.
Currently, the Yarona Rustenburg bus service is the only universally accessible public transport in the city. Special needs passengers who can use Yarona Rustenburg include the visually impaired, wheelchair users, seniors, young children, pregnant women and people with strollers, passengers with luggage, passengers travelling alone at night, and passengers carrying large items such as skateboards, hoverboards, or bicycles.
Universal access features unique to Yarona Rustenburg include tectile paving to help people with visual impairments find stations and platforms, glass and flap gates at stations for wheelchair users, audio induction loops at ticket counters for the hearing impaired, security cameras on buses and stations monitored by a control centre.
