RRT embraces the Transport for Rustenburg Incubation Programme (TRIP) to empower graduates

The Rustenburg Rapid Transport (RRT) initiative serves as a notable advancement in the municipality’s endeavours to transform the landscape of public transport. RRT, which functions as an impetus for improved connectivity and mobility, exemplifies the dedication to delivering sustainable and effective transport alternatives to the residents of Rustenburg.

Central to the RRT project is the Transport for Rustenburg Incubation Programme (TRIP), an innovative endeavour formulated to furnish recent graduates with the requisite expertise and competencies to thrive in the domain of public transport administration. Participants in TRIP are afforded a distinctive opportunity to partake in an all-encompassing shadow training program, during which they acquire practical knowledge from a diverse range of staff members engaged in the RRT project, including representatives from the Municipality and designated service providers.

TRIP is an ideal program for recent graduates who have limited or no prior experience. It offers a nurturing learning environment wherein individuals can acquire practical knowledge and significant insights in domains including project management, business development, and stakeholder engagement, to marketing and brand management. By means of mentorship and hands-on instruction, TRIP provides its graduates with the necessary resources and understanding to commence their professional lives and generate significant impacts within the transportation sector.

Rorisang Motene who has been an indispensable component of the TRIP program for the past year, is one such success story. During her tenure in the Operations & Technologies Unit, Motene has been afforded the invaluable employment opportunity to gain hands-on experience in diverse facets of resource allocation, client relations, ICT, and project planning within the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s ICT Unit. Her commitment and eagerness have rendered her an invaluable member of the group, and her trajectory stands as a source of motivation for those aspiring to pursue careers in the same domain.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the TRIP program and to work within the Operations & Technologies Unit at RRT. Now my responsibility shifts as I have been absorbed by Rustenburg Local Municipality’s ICT Unit. Over the past year, I have gained invaluable hands-on experience in resource allocation, client relations, ICT, and project planning. My commitment and eagerness to learn have allowed me to become an integral member of the team, currently Acting as the Network Security Technician. I hope my journey serves as inspiration for others looking to pursue careers in this field.” – Rorisang Motene.

TRIP maintains its dedication to fostering innovation and cultivating exceptional individuals as it invests in the emergence of future transport industry leaders. “By means of initiatives such as TRIP, we are not solely influencing the trajectory of transport in Rustenburg, but also enabling recent graduates to exercise their utmost capabilities and make meaningful contributions to the city’s sustainable progress”, Godfrey Mahlangu, Acting Director at Roads & Transport concludes.
